2008 CORVETTE

2008 Corvette Safety Features

Driver and Passenger Dual-Stage Frontal and Side-Impact Air Bags

Every Corvette is equipped with standard driver and right-front passenger frontal air bags.(1) Side-impact air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of injury to front-seat occupants on the near side of certain side-impact collisions. These are standard on convertible and available on coupe and Z06.

Passenger Sensing Air Bag System

Standard on every Corvette, the Passenger Sensing System automatically switches the right-front passenger air bag(1) on or off based on the passenger's weight and the type of pressure on the seat. A lighted indicator is located on the mirror.

Z06 Antilock Brakes

Z06 employs monoblock six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers. Each piston utilizes its own pad. The opposing pistons operate in pairs, applying brake pressure equally to each side of the rotor. The extra-large 14-inch front rotors and 13.4-inch rears are vented and cross-drilled. Brake cooling ducts are capable of moving twice the amount of cooling air compared to the previous-generation Z06.

Antilock Brake System (ABS)

Both coupe and convertible feature standard four–wheel antilock disc brakes that help prevent wheel lockup during braking in most slippery road conditions.

Active Handling System

Active Handling System is an electronic symphony of Traction Control and antilock brakes that work together with microcomputers, accelerometers and stability sensors. While no system can overcome the laws of physics, Active Handling compares driver steering input with actual vehicle response. When necessary, it uses individual wheel break application, the Traction Control System and Magnetic Selective Ride Control (available on Coupe and Convertible) to maximize the driver's ability to maintain stability and stay on track.

OnStar

OnStar with a one-year Safe & Sound Plan(2) is standard when you purchase or lease a Corvette. An OnStar Advisor is always ready to help in a variety of situations, whether you've locked your keys in the vehicle,(3) have a flat tire or the air bags have deployed.(1)

Traction Control

In the event of wheel spin, this standard feature automatically slows the spinning wheel down to help regain traction and keep you moving.

Driver Information Center (DIC)

This standard feature helps keep you up to date on various functions of your Corvette. The display is located inside the gauge cluster, and includes a Tire Pressure Monitor and conveys trip information and calculations. You'll also get personalized settings such as door-lock functionality and keyless access preferences. Readouts are in six languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian or Japanese.

Extended Mobility Tires (EMT)

Every Corvette is equipped with "Run-Flat" Goodyear Extended Mobility Tires (EMT) that help eliminate the need for a spare. The tire design helps enable safe function during and after loss of pressure for up to 100 miles of continuous driving at 55 mph. Keep in mind that the shorter the distance you drive with the loss of pressure, the better the chance that the tire can be repaired.

Xenon High-Intensity Discharge Headlamps

The low-beam headlamps have a spread pattern that is wider. And at 900 lumens, the units provide significant forward lighting power.

1 A NOTE ABOUT CHILD SAFETY: Always use safety belts and the correct child restraint for your child's age and size. Even in vehicles equipped with the Passenger Sensing System, children are safer when properly secured in a rear seat in the appropriate infant, child or booster seat. Never place a rear-facing infant restraint in the front seat of any vehicle equipped with an active air bag. See the Owner's Manual and child safety seat instructions for more safety information.

2 OnStar services require vehicle electrical system and analog wireless service to be available and operating for features to function properly. OnStar uses existing emergency service providers as well as analog wireless and satellite technologies and is subject to their limitations. The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ruled that wireless carriers will no longer be required to support the analog wireless network after February 16, 2008. After that time, if the carriers for OnStar elect to only provide digital service, OnStar service will only be available through dual-mode hardware, which may require the purchase of a system upgrade. Call 1-888-4ONSTAR (1-888-466-7827), see your OnStar Owner's Guide or visit onstar.com for system limitations and details.
